Good Food

The George has an enviable reputation for good pub food.  You can love it too! See our menu here.

Fresh, home-made, good pub food

Our food is a mix of traditional and contemporary British cooking. We stick with pub classics and have regularly changing specials on the board; but please telephone if you have particular needs or requests. It will be nice to know you’re coming.

We make almost everything ourselves, sourcing from local suppliers and using local ingredients wherever possible. The majority of our meat is produced within a 25 mile radius and supplied to us by P&K Meats of Glastonbury. Game is locally shot, we hang our pheasants and partridges in the woodshed and forage local mushrooms and greens such as wild garlic, nettles, elderflowers, ceps and mushrooms, sloes, blackberries and rowans. We cut our own wood for the fires too!

Our fresh seafood is popular as well. This includes Tor Bay mussels, Cornish scallops, Brixham crab, and hake, plaice and sole. The children’s menu meets the needs of most fussy eaters, and we conscientiously cater for vegetarians, vegans and celiacs too. We are knowledgeable about food allergies and do not use any MSG, artificial colours, or sweeteners.

All these things combine to make good pub food into something great at The George. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions or special needs.

Sunday lunch

Sunday Lunch is a real treat at the George. The Sunday menu is here. We serve locally reared corner-cut topside of beef, honey roast pork, chicken, a vegetarian roast and usually a fresh fish.  Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings accompany, and it’s rare for anyone to leave the table hungry!

A great place to eat good pub food with friends!
The Bar at the George Inn

There are plenty of choices for where to eat in the pub.
We have a snug area with seating for 10 , our restaurant with seating for up to 25, the old tack room that seats 20 and the main bar seats another 40. The bar includes a lovely open fire and the snug a wood-burning stove; making those areas especially attractive in the winter.

In the summer, don’t forget our delightful beer garden. As well as the terrace we have a swing for children, a lovely flower border and room to seat 30 with ease. With so much to offer the only problem is parking nearby!

Advance bookings are appreciated whenever possible. Call us on 01749 342306. We look forward to seeing you soon.
